Cleveland, Ohio is quickly becoming known for producing some of the most brutal and angry music out there today. Whether it be the cold winters or the hot, humid summers, one thing is for sure.. The bands are pissed off. This is a city that's scarring the face of metal and creating it's own definitive sound. YEARS OF FIRE are quickly becoming one of the leading players in "Cleveland Metal."
YEARS OF FIRE was formed in the spring of 2005 by former Chimaira (Roadrunner Records) guitarist/co-founder Jason Hager and guitarist/producer Cole Martinez who has quickly become one of the most sought after producers in the area over the past few years in metal as well as rock. Having known each other for years, Hager knew that getting Martinez was a must. However, YEARS OF FIRE was not complete without all the right elements.
Referred to by a mutual friend, drummer Brian Hanculak who had played in a few bands around the area came in and blew everyone away. Hanculak has the serial killer's approach to drumming.. Quiet, laid back guy.. but once you put him behind his kit he's brutal force to be reckoned with. Next up was former Ringworm (Victory Records) bassist Ben Hollowell. Hollowell's style and attitude pretty much made him the right guy for the job right off the bat.
When it came time to complete the line up, there was only one guy who could front this band, and that is former Ascension vocalist Chris Wood. Wood's vocal style is just as unique and aggressive as his stage presence. Wood is one of the few guys who still puts every ounce of anger and hostility he has into his voice. He's not one of these guys who just goes in there and gets the job done, he puts everything he has into it and when you hear him.. you know, without a doubt he means every word belted out of his mouth.
When word got out about YEARS OF FIRE expectations were high, and it's safe to say that by everyone's reaction that these 5 guys far surpassed everything that everyone was expecting to hear. They have been making quite a name for themselves over the past year and their fancies around the world is growing larger by the day. Having shared the stage with the likes of Chimaira, Ringworm, Integrity, Turmoil and Byzantine, Years Of Fire are also gaining the respect of their peers, not just as "another metal band," but as key players in the metal world. If you were to see them live you'd understand. Their live performance is just as intense as the music they play. Wood has been known to strike fear in quite a few people. His in "in your face" attitude has left many fans standing dead in their tracks not knowing how to react. He's not afraid to leave the stage bleeding, and has on more than one occasion left with broken bones.
YEARS OF FIRE have a simple goal.. To completely destroy everything in their path and to show the world what metal is truly about.. Anger, hostility and attitude, not eyeliner, tight pants and fashion. Having been told by some that their sound is "too heavy and needs melody," YEARS OF FIRE plan on doing it one way, and one way only. Their way!
YEARS OF FIRE are creating the soundtrack to the feelings people have inside of them and giving them something that they can relate to in their own personal lives. Simply put , there's no eyeliner, no bullshit, just pure 100% American Made Heavy Metal! These are indeed the Years Of Fire!
