Going from mere concept into reality is always a daunting task, especially at the "Crossroads of America", where conservatism and status quo make up a so called "life". So, it should be no surprise that within these confines comes a singular voice of dissention, screaming out with aggression. The time for Judgement has come. The time for Judgement is now.
Central Indiana’s Judgement began in early 2005 as a three piece instrumental outfit. Nate Wright (ex-Prod, guitar), eager to start a band with more traditional metal roots, found like minded band mates in Jeff Mason and Greg Sasser (ex-Bledd, bass and drums, respectively). This new collective had one goal in mind – to create no-frills metal that delivered a modern twist on the traditional metal paradigm. After a long and arduous search for a vocalist to front the band, Matt Williamson, a Milwaukee native, was brought into the band to bring a voice to the music. After debut bookings with modern metal kings Lamb of God and thrash metal titans Anthrax, Matt exited the band citing personal reasons. With the sudden notoriety in the local Indianapolis, IN scene, Judgement felt the pressure to find a new vocalist fast and keep the momentum building. In November of 2005, with studio time booked and no vocalist lined up, Judgement called on their brothers in the local metal scene and recorded a demo that featured 6 of their favorite metal vocalists from area bands. During the sessions, one vocalist stood above all others as the perfect fit for Judgement – Steve Coen (Habitual). As the founder and lead vocalist for traditional metallers Habitual, Steve brought the perfect amount of drive and ability to Judgement. From the moment Judgement hit the stage with Steve, there was no mistake that he was a perfect choice.
The band released their self titled debut EP in May of 2006. Produced by guitarist Nate Wright and the band, the EP is a study in both light and dark. The EP opens with pained strings and subdued ambience only to send you into the pummeling maelstrom. You can catch your breath just long enough during "Adrift" only to fall back into the depths of the torrent.
Since the release of the EP, Judgement has worked to create a regional identity. Through their hard work and success, they have created a strong following allowing them to be hand picked to play with the top acts in metal today including Arch Enemy, God Forbid, Chimaira, Unearth, All That Remains, Hate Eternal, Year of Desolation, Forever in Terror, Destruction, Sadus, Municipal Waste and more.
